MAHALIA | “DO NOT DISTURB” (SIR SPYRO REMIX) | REVIEW

– THE MILITARY COUP –

What a lovely idea; the concept of being able to put oneself on ‘Do Not Disturb’. The possibility of being able to be away from the world, insulated from its ills, hermetically sealed from harm. All that without having to rely on ‘resting bitch face’ (which is my typical MO).

In Do Not Disturb, Mahalia distances herself from a poisonous relationship by doing just that, and while the original was more of a slinky, soul/jazz strut, Sir Spyro’s dubstep/grime remix makes the song slap in the way the track (and quite probably Ms. Burkmar’s ex-boyfriend) properly deserve.

An album is (finally!) due out in the Summer but, if you can’t wait until then, check out her colab with Swindle and Kojey Radical, featured on 45 back in May.
