JAX BEATS + BLK OZWALD + ROSIE P: CHILLS | REVIEW

– THE CHARM OFFENSIVE –

When the lockdown is over, one silver-lining will reveal itself many times and across a multitude of media. And that is the spirit of resilience and resourcefulness.

The trio of lyricist Blk Ozwald, guitarist/producer Jax Beats and vocalist/saxophonist Rosie P had never recorded together before the Coronavirus pandemic but, fuelled by their creativity – both musical and technological – they connected across different UK locations to record their music. Chills is the heart-warming result.

And while it’s notable that each musician’s parts were recorded separately, what is most astonishing about Chills is that you wouldn’t know it to listen to it. Mixed by Jax Beats from his Ipswich bunker, everything on the track is as super tight as a funk beat like this demands it should be.

The layering of Rosie P’s vocals and soulful sax lines is superb and Blk Ozwald’s scrupulously South London strain of vocal delivery makes Loyle Carner sound Loyle Corny.
