J RICK: SHORT | REVIEW

– GUERRILLA WARFARE –

London producer Jordan Cian Christie is better known by his stage name J Rick and best known for his work with Octavian.

Having produced the French-British rapper’s first three singles – one of which featured on FIFA 19 – the producer has now branched out on his own.

The result is a debut EP featuring collaborations with RIMON and Obongjayar as well as the aforementioned Octavian.

The title of said record is No retreat, no surrender.

The title refers to a tattoo Christie has, and what’s clear from Short is that he’s equally as uncompromising when it comes to realising his artistic vision.

Itis an awesome mash-up of glitchy electronica, Latin and Samba beats, and mumble rap sensibilities.

“I want the first thing I release to be proper different,” says Rick in, what one imagines can only be a proper London geezer accent.

Well, sir, you’ve certainly achieved that.

No retreat, no surrender is out now through Warner Music.
