– THE MILITARY COUP –
Before we go anywhere, EARTHGANG are from Atlanta’s Southside so blah blah blah OutKast, blah blah blah Future.
But y’all knew that anyway, right? I mean, just listen to Doctur Dot’s wheezy Dre’ 3000 delivery.
Having built a reputation for their hard-working, DIY approach to music and “well thought-out… playful delivery and biting lyricism” for nearly the last 10 years, 2019 sees the duo dropping their major label debut, ‘Mirrorland’ through J. Cole’s Dreamville Records.
And ‘Blue Moon’ is an undeniable highlight. Rich in lyrical horn lines and even hornier lyrics, it grinds and bumps through an everyday tale of good old bumpin’ ‘n’ grindin’ like the best.
“Come on over honey, give me some sugar / Come on over sugar, give me some honey” begs Johnny Venus (not to be mistaken with gruff-voiced Northern comedian, Vegas – now that’s a thought you won’t get out of your head) on the second verse.
And, well, Blue Moon delivers on both sugar and honey and a whole lotta funny besides.
‘Mirrorland’ is out now.
