BRONX SLANG: LADIES AND GENTLEMEN | REVIEW

– THE MILITARY COUP –

Bronx Slang like to think of themselves as ‘edutainers’ – part wise-cracking, your-friendly-bounty-hunters-next-door kinda guys, part streetwise prophets of boom, shedding light (and not simply because Jerry Beeks owns an old-fashioned coalminer’s helmet – see the video below) on the cultural zeitgeists of the day.

Along with co-conspirator, Ollie Miggs (of Shootyz Groove fame) the duo are building a reputation for themselves as the resurrecters-in-chief of old skool hip-hop ‘purism’.

And Ladies and Gentlemen is just the latest in a growing catalogue of funk‘n’soul-spiced beats to propel the pair even further into the limelight.

The real highlight here is the contribution of Producer, Jadell. Not to be confused with the contraceptive implant “jadelle” the self-styled Gentleman of Leisure, lays down a groove so sexy it could impregnate you from a thousand paces.

Meanwhile, keys shimmy like a snake charmer’s spell while horn-blasts accompany Beeks’ “Ladies and gentlemen” boxing-MC intro before a drum roll sees us to our conclusion.

It’s brassy, it’s bold and it’s a boisterous statement of intent from the boys from the Big Apple.

The track comes from Bronx Slang’s debut self-titled EP which is out now.
