Hello again friends, freaks and fans of Future Jazz.

In the week that international cricket returned with England’s Test match against the West Indies being played out at The Ageas Bowl, 45 RPM returns with five new future jazz tracks that will never be trapped lbw.

Opening the bowling is Hampshire’s own Greg Foat. The pianist’s track Nikinakinu is fusion jazz that’s full of fun and flavour and that’s why it’s your Charm Offensive.

Banging in a Jofra Archer bouncer, straight at your head (or, more accurately, your hips) is legendary Ethio-jazz percussionist Mulatu Astatke and his latest collaborators-in-arms, Melbourne’s Black Jesus Experience. Their track To Know Without Knowing is powered by the pulsating delivery of rapper Mr Monk. That’s your Military Coup.

Seeing out the middle overs in a far more serene way than England were able to today are percussionist Carlos Niño and violinist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. Their beautiful Part VI – Into Eternity is improvised jazz, inspired by the still waters of Lake Michigan. That’s your Peaceful Protest this week.

Floating in some Googlies, some wrong’uns and some very, very right ones is Italian-born producer Loelash. His latest release, Chaos does exactly what it says on the tin, mixing baile funk with dance beats. That’s your Guerrilla Warfare selection.

And mopping up the tail is British vocalist Lianne La Havas. Her slowed-down, sexed up cover of Radiohead’s Weird Fishes finished things off and is your Quiet Riot.
