Hello again friends, freaks and fans of nu-jazz music of the kind that revels in sporting unpredictability.
Have I got some bangers for you this week!
Leading from the front like Caster Semenya with her wanger tucked between her legs is Abstract Orchestra’s cover of Dabrye and MF DOOM’s Air. The Leeds jazz/hip-hop specialists give us a flavour of their latest Madvillian cover album as part of our Charm Offensive.
Next up and smashing 13 unanswered like the American Women’s soccer team is the appropriately-named Sampa the Great. Her soul/rap smash-up Final Form sees the Zambian going back to her roots for our Military Coup.
London orchestral-jazz quintet Kinkajous provide our Peaceful Protest this week but, like the ICC’s remarkably sticky bails, all is not as it seems below the surface.
And, like Drake trolling literally everyone from the edges of a basketball court, Bubby Lewis’ taunts us with his mental-breakdown-in-five-and-a-half-minutes new song, Game of Life which provides our Guerrilla Warfare selection.
Finally, bringing it all to a sudden end like Chris Froome with an itchy arse is Sans Soucis, whose new single Unchain is an intimate, almost-acoustic ballad which provides our Quiet Riot.
So, if any of that sounds like it’d hit a home run for you, step up to the plate…
