VULTURE ST TAPE GANG | GUNNA | RESAVOIR | THEO CROKER | PREFAB SPROUT
Hello again friends, freaks and fans of new alternative music of the kind that doesn’t go down well on a Stag Do.
I can confidently make the above assertion as I’m currently writing this blog, lounged by an Algarve pool while a grown man dances in a mankini to the sounds of Blur’s Girls and Boys, Electric Six’s Gay Bar and Will Smith’s Gettin’ Jiggy Wit’ It perilously close to my head.
Somehow, I don’t think commandeering the wireless speaker to play some of Theo Croker’s electronic-fused jazz would go down well. And, no, I don’t think explaining that he’s a practitioner of transcendental meditation would talk around this particular group of “lads, lads, lads” either. Needless to say, his Subconscious Flirtations & Titillations provides my Guerrilla Warfare selection for this week.
Perhaps Resavoir’s “bedroom jazz” (the Peaceful Protest) would be more their speed, but only because of the lascivious connotations; less so for the musical content.
On second thoughts, rapper Gunna (the Military Coup) has some street-cred but one suspects we need considerably more ‘honies’ hanging around our hot tub and more of the champagne version of Cristal (rather than the cheap Portuguese beer that we actually have) to live up to that vibe.
Vulture St Tape Gang (the Charm Offensive) could also possibly be slipped in under the radar with their infectious brand of barbershop-blended funk.
And, who knows, by the time the hangovers kick in tomorrow morning, this week’s Quiet Riot – the 22-minute classical vibes of Prefab Sprout’s i trawl the MEGAHERTZ may even be just what the doctor ordered.
So, while the rest of Christendom marks the death and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, enjoy these more mature, more cerebral vibes and think of me, fighting my way through yet more Big Willie Style (no, that’s not another mankini reference) long into the night.
VULTURE ST TAPE GANG: PRETTY
GUNNA: WHO YOU FOOLIN
RESAVOIR: ESCALATOR (DEMO VERSION)
THEO CROKER: SUBCONSCIOUS FLIRTATIONS AND TITILLATIONS
